Las Olas Isles | IdleWyld

The Idlewyld neighborhood is part of the Venice (A.K.A Las Olas Isles) neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale. The neighborhood is accessible from Las Olas Blvd and includes Idlewyld Drive, Poinciana Drive, Sunset Drive and the eastern side of Riviera Isle Drive. Idlewyld contains primarily single family waterfront homes. There are a few Waterfront Condominiums located directly on Las Olas Blvd. and Sunset Dr. The single-family homes are separated from the rest of the neighborhood with guard gates. Of all of the Las Olas Isles, the IdleWyld Neighborhood gives off that home-town small neighborhood charm. There is an equal mix of Waterfront homes and non Waterfront homes. The neighborhood of Riviera Isles can be accessed by Riviera Isle Dr.

Idlewyld in the Movies!

A Home in Idlewyld was used in the 1986 film Flight of the Navigator. The home still exists today and is relatively unchanged. Other areas in Fort Lauderdale and Broward county were also used as filming locations for the movie, including some in Miami. The home in Idylewyld is featured in the begining and end of the movie and is the residence of the main characters. A home just off Hollywood Blvd near the Intracoastal was used as the “alternate” family home in the movie. Various neighborhoods of Fort Lauderdale and the City can be seen throughout the film. Ironically a home of “a friend” in the movie was filmed in the current Lauderdale Isles(not Seven Isles). It is a great Disney 80’s classic staring Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker and Paul Reubens.
